The mystical story The Queen of Spades is based on a real event told by A.S. Pushkin Prince S.G. Golitsyn. The prince and his grandmother became prototypes of heroes. The rest is the fiction of the author.
Chapter 1
Winter night connected a company of people at a game of cards. The game was for the atmosphere. They didn’t make large sums, the losers were not overcome by sadness.
Only one person was not keen on playing in this room. It was a youthful engineer Hermann: "I didn’t take cards in my hands, I didn’t bend any passwords from my people."
And now the game is over. One of the players, Tomsky, talks about the amazing secret of his grandmother, revealed by the magician Saint-Germain himself. This sphinx riddle of three stripes, which bring a win, if you put them in a row.
Chapter 2
The Countess *** was whimsical, like many older people. The object of her reproaches and whims of age was "pre-unfortunate creation" - a pupil of Lizaveta Ivanovna. The heroine patiently accompanied the countess on all walks and receptions. She was familiar to everyone, but no one noticed her. Lizaveta was waiting for a young man who would save her from this fate.
Opposite the girl’s window, a young engineer began to appear daily; Lizaveta was very excited.
Hermann was the secret admirer. The story of Tomsky excited his mind. He intended to find out the secret of the three cards.
Chapter 3
Lizaveta succumbed to the onslaught of letters from Hermann with declarations of love. She explains to the hero in a letter how he can quietly get into the house while she and the countess are at the ball.
Once in place, the hero does not go to Lizaveta’s room, as the letter punished him. The girl did not interest him at all. Hermann hides in the countess’s office to find out the secret of the cards. But she did not intend to share the secret. In anger, Hermann pulls out a gun (unloaded). The countess died of fright.
Chapter 4
In the room, Lizaveta Ivanovna is waiting for her guest. She scrolls through the head the words of Tomsky, with which he outlined Hermann: "This man has at least three atrocities on his soul."
Hermann still comes. He brings news of the death of the old woman. The heroine realizes that the man just used her.
Chapter 5
Three days after the "fateful night", a funeral was held. Hermann went to the funeral service. There, the hero fainted due to the fact that he dreamed that the dead countess "looked at him mockingly, squinting with one eye."
At night, the spirit of the deceased appeared to Hermann and revealed a riddle - three, seven, ace. They will bring a jackpot upon agreement that only one of these cards will be put on the day. Also, the hero must marry Lizaveta.
Chapter 6
Chekalinsky arrives in St. Petersburg, a minion of luck, sensational in gaming circles. Hermann dares to enter into a game with him. The hero puts all his savings, the "troika" brings him a win.
The next day, the "seven" entered the game. And victory again. On the third day of the game, the Queen of Spades and Ace were distributed. It was the turn of the Ace. But instead, Hermann extended the Queen of Spades. The drawing on the map reminded him of the countess: "The Queen of Spades squinted and grinned."
Conclusion
Hermann made up his mind. “Three, seven, ace”, is only heard from the 17th ward of the Obukhov hospital. The son of the previous ruler of the countess married Lizaveta.
