: Puppy and teddy bear are alone in the forest. With the onset of winter, the teddy bear hibernates. Left alone, the puppy survives and finds a master.
The little bear Neyev is born in late March. His mother, an old bear, teaches the baby how to get food, how to avoid danger. Not sparing herself, the mother protects her cub.
Neeva’s calm, carefree life is interrupted by a meeting with the hunter Challoner, who kills the she-bear for the sake of meat and fat. Little Bear yearns for his mother. It seems to Challoner that he committed a crime, and the hunter takes the beast with him. Neyeva meets Mickey's awkward, kornochy puppy. Challoner tries to make friends with the teddy bear, but Neyev sees him as an enemy. Okhotnk is going to take Miki and Neyev to his sister.
Putting the bear cub in a bag and tying it with a puppy with a rope, Challoner shuttles on the lake. While swimming, Miki, sympathizing with the little bear, tries to make friends with him, but he yearns for his mother. During one of these attempts, the shuttle swims in a dangerous place, and the teddy bear with the puppy falls into the rapids. Challoner cannot help them in any way and I am sure that they died. But due to its mass and fat, Neyev is unsinkable. It becomes a lifebelt for a puppy tied to it.Finally, the little bear manages to cling to the snag, which safely carries them through the rapids.
Having got ashore, Neeva and Miki find themselves in the forest, which is the home of the teddy bear. But Mikey is afraid of an unfamiliar area, especially since he, like a domestic dog, cannot get food in the forest, unlike Neyev, who feeds on wasps and ants. For Mika, dangers lurk in the woods at every turn. Holding together, the animals help each other out and gain survival experience. Finally, having become accustomed, they lead a serene life.
Colds come, and Neeva goes into hibernation, Miki is left alone. Suffering from loneliness, he hunts near the cave where his friend sleeps. Not understanding what is happening, Miki brings him food, trying to wake up the teddy bear. During a blizzard, the cave enters, and Miki is lost. He eats the bait in traps set by the Indian Jacques Lebo. To catch the thief, Lebo adds strychnine to the bait. Miraculously surviving after the first piece of poisoned meat, Miki no longer touches the bait in the traps, but eats live animals that come across there. Lebo hunts a thief. Escaping from Lebo, Miki enters into a deadly battle with the wolves.
Meanwhile, Lebo buys a ferocious dog named Neto, which means "killer." Neto must break the thief and win the fight with the neighbor's dog Lebo, the bouncer Duran. Having created a cunning trap, Lebo catches Miki in a trap. Neto, he orders to rush to Miki, hoping that the dog will deal with the hated thief. But taught by a harsh forest life, Miki bites her throat to a terrible dog. Wounded Neto escapes into the forest, and Lebo violently brutally beats Mika with a club.
Wounded Miki Lebo leads home. Lebo's wife, Nanetta, suffering from the beating of her husband, becomes attached to the puppy and cares for him. Lebo hit her in the chest as she fed her firstborn. Milk disappeared from the blow, and the child died. Nanetta cannot forgive her husband and seeks safe shelter for herself and her daughter. Lebo trains Miki, trying to make him a fighting dog. Secretly from her husband, Nanette pampers Miki.
Lebo brings Duran home to show which beast he raised. Nanetta, seeing that her husband swings at Mikey with a club, rushes at him, trying to protect her pet. Seeing that Lebo raises his hand to his wife, Miki rushes at him. Lebo falls dead, banging his head on a nearby log.
Durant bury a dead rival, and Nanetta feels relieved to get rid of the tyrant. Duran tricked into taking Mika with him, intending to expose him as a fighting dog.
At the tournament, Miki defeats the formidable opponent, the half-dog, half-wolf. Chalonner recognizes him, wounded and raised. The dog and the owner rush to each other, and Chalonner picks up Miki. But Duran does not intend to give away a fighting dog that brought him a good win. He says that Miki bit his former owner Lebo, and he needs to be shot. Chalonner goes to Nanette to find out the truth. Duran and the owner of the loser dog pounce on Chalonner, but Miki rescues his master.
Mickey feels an irresistible craving for the former mistress, gnaws the belt and runs to her. Soon Challoner appears in the hut. Love flashes between him and Nanetta.
One day Miki runs off to hunt. Once again becoming a domestic dog, he loses the vigilance of a forest resident, and misfortune happens to him: a log falls on a dog and his hind legs are taken away. Recovering, he runs home, but the owners left their hut. Mikey again finds himself alone in the forest, but now his loneliness is getting sadder than before.
With the onset of spring, Miki comes to the cave, where his friend Neeva sleeps. He bites the bear by the ear, and he wakes up. Now friends are hunting together again, helping each other. At the end of summer, a forest fire drives friends out of a familiar and lived forest. At a new place, Neeva falls into the trap. The owner of the trap wants to give the bear to the newlyweds Nanetta and Chalonner, but when he sees that this is already an adult bear, he decides to let him go. The newlyweds open the trap and see next to Mika, who has come to help her friend.
Now a bear in a collar wanders in these parts, and a dog accompanies it. In winter, the bear sleeps in a cellar specially dug for him, and at night Miki comes to him.
